HUBERT KURKIEWICZ
Ever since I came across the expression ‘working for a bowl of rice’, I’ve had a problem with it. I didn’t really understand what it was supposed to mean. Does it refer to inflation, problems in the labour market, the elites getting richer? Or perhaps the privatisation of state-owned companies? The unfair flow of assets? Invisible labour? The only way to defend this phrase is to apply it to the Polish context. Since potatoes are the main source of starch in the Polish diet, I had to create a huge bowl that makes a transformation into rice possible.
